In May 2000, Barbara and Bart Klion sent the following e-mail to Supervisor Paul Feiner, which they shared with Grassroots for Greenburgh.

Dear Paul:

We first brought this to your attention way back in March.

The Town streets continue to be dirty, notably Secor Road from 9A to the crest of the hill before Ferncliff Cemetary.  It has been reported to the proper department many times but there is always an excuse as to why it hasn't been taken care of.  There was a time some years ago that such a complaint was not necessary.  It seems that while our taxes go up, our services go down.

Another problem is the increase of advertising signs on telephone poles.  We don't think these poles are put up to give free advertising to companies which, in most cases, do not do business in Greenburgh.  In any case, people who advertise homes for sale, windows to be replaced (Hartsdale Avenue and Hillside Avenue), work-at-home opportunities (near Town Hall and other places) should be made to remove their signs or face a monetary fine.

When I called the Building Department to complain about some signs, I was told I had to put my complaint in writing and sign the letter before they would investigate!  Excuse me?  If there is an ordinance, then the Building Department should take care of it without a letter.  If there is no ordinance, then one should be passed.

Greenburgh is no longer green--things certainly have changed during the last few years.

We would appreciate your comments and not just be told that you will pass these comments on to other parties.

Barbara and Bart Klion

Paul Feiner responded with:

I have asked Mark Tenzer to head a committee that will work on developing a sign ordinance.

PAUL FEINER

As a footnote, Mrs. Klion adds:

"After receiving the above, we wrote again saying he hadn't answered our question about the garbage and the one-line response was, 'I'll get the proper department on it.'"

"By the way, the 'proper department' was called by us at least four to six times before we contacted Paul."
