Mr. Paul Feiner and the Town Board
Town of Greenburgh
PO Box 205
Elmsford, NY 10523
Dear Paul and Members of the Town Board:
The Council of Greenburgh Civic Associations was approached
by the residents of South Washington Avenue because the Town of Greenburgh has not been
responsive to their concerns about single family houses being used as rooming houses
without special permits.
Instead of addressing the problems of Greenburgh residents,
the Town through the actions of its Building Department has harassed the concerned
citizens. Their quality of life has been so impacted that some of the people are looking
to sell their houses. These residents came to the Council after 6 months of trying to get
the Town to listen and act on their complaints. Instead of assisting the residents,
Greenburgh's Building Department employees seem to be assisting violators by helping them
complete forms to make it appear as if the roomers/boarders are not violating Town laws.
The South Washington Avenue residents will shortly send you a
detailed chronology of events including the Town's not responding to their concerns. The
Council is advising the residents to publicize their issues through the media if their
concerns are not addressed by our elected Town officials.
The Council feels that among issues the residents have
raised, that health and fire safety laws may be violated that may require involvement of
Westchester County. The Council strongly urges Greenburgh officials to assist the South
Washington Avenue residents to recapture the quality of life they formerly had and
deserve. The Town should meet their needs not harass them.
Very truly yours,
/signed/
