TOWN BOARD APPROVES COMMUNITY-ENDORSED ANTENNA LAW AMENDMENTS

Grassroots for Greenburgh (GfG) thanks the Secor Homes Civic Association (SHCA), the Antenna Review Board (ARB) (formerly the Antenna Advisory Board), and the community for once again demonstrating its strong support for the antenna law amendments. Last night’s turnout by the community once again proved the critical factor in obtaining Town Board passage of these important amendments.
The community support, together with the superb leadership of the Antenna Review Board (ARB), particularly Catherine Lederer-Plaskett, Chair of the ARB, and Francis X. Sheehan, ARB member and founding member of SHCA, provided the momentum to persuade the Town Board to vote yes on the amendments. Lederer-Plaskett and Sheehan wrote Greenburgh’s nationally recognized antenna law as well as the amendments to strengthen the law to protect residential communities from applicants seeking to place cellular antennas on inappropriate sites. These changes give the ARB authority to determine an application’s completeness prior to the involvement of the Town’s Building Inspector. The ARB also has final determination on the esthetics of cellular antennas.
The fate of the amendments was negotiated at the final hour after ARB members indicated that they would expose the underpinnings of the Town’s own proposed amendments, which would have resulted in placing cellular antennas primarily in one area of the Town to the detriment of the local community.
Faced with this prospect, the Town Board voted unanimously to accept the antenna amendments.
But without the strong presence of the community at this and other Town meetings, success would have proven elusive.
