Feiner
financials raise some ethical conflict of interest issues, his protests
notwithstanding
Grassroots for Greenburgh
provides the following two documents as a public service to Greenburgh
residents.
These are the
financial disclosure statements [required for all candidates by the New York
State Board of Elections] for Paul Feiner, Supervisor
of the Town of Greenburgh, for the periods 1/15/05—7/15/05 and 7/16/05—8/12/05.
Mr. Feiner is a candidate again for Supervisor in the upcoming Democratic
primary on Tuesday, September 13, 2005.
The documents demonstrate that Mr. Feiner is well
funded, with campaign reserves in excess of $130,000. Additionally, Mr. Feiner
garners the continued support of developers’ lawyers who have active projects
before the Town. This clearly is a conflict of interest, notwithstanding Mr.
Feiner’s protestations to the contrary.
In an
8/19/05 letter published in The Journal News, Mr. Feiner states,
"'contributions will not be accepted from those who
have current applications pending before the Town of Greenburgh at the time the
contribution is made.' I have returned campaign
contributions sent to me this year by those who have current applications
pending before the town.”
But Mr. Feiner obfuscates. Attorneys for
developers act as their seconds. The following law firms
represent
clients with active and current applications pending before the Town
and have contributed to the Feiner campaign:
McCullough, Goldberger & Staudt, LLP
(5/31/05 contribution of $500, and a previous contribution of $750) are
representing BMW and the Scarsdale Golf Club, both with applications with
contentious issues before the Town.
DelBello Donnellan Weingarten Tartaglia
Wise and Wiederkehr, LLP (5/27/05 contribution of $250 and a previous
contribution of $500) are representing the Greenburgh Health Center and Nob
Hill clients, again, two projects which have aroused some deep community
concerns and have current applications pending before the Town.

Snyder & Snyder, LLP (4/22/05
contribution of $500 and a previous contribution of $1,000) are long time
supporters of Paul Feiner and contributed then and now to the Supervisor’s
campaigns. See:
The Scarsdale Inquirer -- July 29, 2005
In a 1999 press release, the Secor Homes
Civic Association, Inc. (SHCA) took the Supervisor to task for taking
campaign contributions from Snyder & Snyder.
“SHCA members noted that Paul Feiner is a
personal friend and recipient of campaign funds from Snyder & Snyder,
LLP, attorneys for Nextel. SHCA also noted that Mr. Feiner has publicly
acknowledged trying to help Snyder and Snyder expedite the Nextel/WFAS
application even though it failed to conform to Town standards.
Principals at Snyder and Snyder also served on Feiner’s congressional
campaign committee. Mr. Feiner has previously stated he needs $600,000
to $700,000 for his next congressional campaign.”
See: SHCA Press Release--March 8, 1999.
Snyder & Snyder, LLP still represent
telecommunications companies doing business in Greenburgh.
