FRIENDS OF BILL GREENAWALT BILL GREENAWALT TO RUN AGAINST PAUL FEINER IN SEPTEMBER DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY
"I run to bring a new healthy spirit and healing to our town, which is torn by division and needs a rebirth. Greenburgh's house is in disarray. Its six villages are weighing secession. Edgemont is considering becoming a village. Real dialogue is badly needed, but cannot exist in the hostile atmosphere created by the current supervisor," Greenawalt stated. Bill Greenawalt is a life-long Greenburgh resident and a Democrat with strong public service experience. Bill grew up in Greenburgh and attended Edgemont School and Scarsdale High School. He and his wife Peggy have five children--John, David, Kate, Craig, and Eric--who attended and graduated from the Greenburgh Central #7 school. A tradition of public service and executive leadership Public service is a tradition in Bill's family. His parents, Kenneth and Martha Greenawalt, were well-known in Greenburgh for their contributions to our community. With a background of service to the community, Bill majored in Government at Cornell University, continued on to Yale Law School, where he graduated with honors and was elected an Editor of the Yale Law Journal. He served proudly as a U.S. Naval officer with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Bill served with the Office of Economic Opportunity, creating the impressive network of Legal Services for the Poor programs in New England, New York, New Jersey, and Puerto Rico under President Johnson, and administering annual budgets of $75 million. President Carter appointed Bill to his Task Force on Criminal Justice. Governor Carey appointed Bill to his Task Force on Education. Governor Cuomo chose him to chair the Taconic State Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation Commission. County Executive Andrew Spano appointed Bill to his Task Force on Land Use and Planning.
