The following is text of a letter from Lorrin Brown, President of the North Elmsford Civic Association to The Journal News.

Lorrin Brown

August 25, 1999

Letter to the Editor
The Journal News
One Gannett Drive
White Plains, New York 10604

Dear Editor:

For some time now I have been concerned about the obvious tilt of the Journal News in its support of the current Greenburgh Town administration and Town Council. The Journal fails to cover the many critical issues about which residents have expressed concerns, including traffic congestion, overdevelopment, and damage to adjoining property by the Town’s developer-friendly policies. Despite these myriad problems, the Journal, at least once or twice a week, prominently prints puff pieces from Greenburgh’s press office, which do not begin to address the real issues facing Greenburgh.

The Journal fails to cover the Town Board meetings, often the only avenue citizens have to address their concerns, however late into the night because the Town Board controls the scheduling of all discussions. Where is the Journal’s coverage of the issues that prompted a grassroots primary bid by Democrat Francis Sheehan, running for Town Council, in opposition to Les Adler and Eddie Mae Barnes? Where is the coverage of the planned primary debate, scheduled for August 31st at Town Hall, sponsored by the Council of Greenburgh Civic Associations, a nonpartisan civic body?

As the only act in town, the Journal has an obligation and responsibility to cover the real Greenburgh, not the one trumped up by the incumbents. In the interest of fairness, the Journal must open its columns to the citizens of Greenburgh, not just its incumbent political administration and governing board.

Sincerely,

/signed/

Lorrin Brown, President
North Elmsford Civic Association
